Ask President Obama to Support UNICEF in his Budget

Although Congress has not finalized the Appropriations for Fiscal Year 2015, preparations already are underway for the President’s Budget Request for Fiscal Year 2016.

The U.S. Government’s voluntary contribution to UNICEF’s regular resources provides the foundation for UNICEF’s work to save children’s lives and build their futures. The funding is critical to UNICEF’s ability to help the United States in international humanitarian crisis, conflict areas, and emerging threats to the well-being of children. It helps UNICEF to expand what the United States is doing on child survival and maternal health, vaccines, basic education for both girls and boys, and for a variety of child protection initiatives.

The U.S. Government and the American people get a huge return for the funding provided to UNICEF. The continuation of the contribution for UNICEF at the level of $132 million will enable UNICEF’s ongoing work to move forward, and will help position UNICEF to respond effectively to the urgent humanitarian crises around the world that jeopardize the lives and well-being of millions of children.

Take action today! As the President considers his budget priorities for Fiscal Year 2016, he needs to know that concerned Americans want the funding for UNICEF maintained. Vulnerable children are counting on you! Please take a moment to sign this petition to the President about the contribution to UNICEF.
Dear Mr. President:

As you prepare your budget request for Fiscal Year 2016, I ask that you continue the strong support of the United States for UNICEF by including $132 million as the U.S. Government’s contribution to UNICEF. This would maintain UNICEF’s funding at the level recommended by Congress in previous fiscal years.

The U.S. Government’s contribution to UNICEF provides the foundation for UNICEF’s work to save children’s lives and build their futures. Since its creation in 1946, UNICEF has saved more children’s lives than any other humanitarian organization.

During your State of the Union Address in February 2013, you reinforced American’s commitment to save the world’s children from preventable deaths, and you have pledged the efforts of the United States to work with other nations to end preventable child deaths globally within a generation.

UNICEF is an essential partner of the United States to meet this objective, and the U.S. Government’s annual contribution to UNICEF is critical to saving these children’s lives.

The American people get a large return for the funding provided to UNICEF. UNICEF supports prenatal care, child health and nutrition, clean water and sanitation, quality education for all girls and boys, and protecting children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS. The contribution from the U.S. Government also helps UNICEF to respond quickly in humanitarian emergencies, including the crises in Syria, Iraq, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic.

Please make the funding for UNICEF a priority in your budget request for Fiscal Year 2016 and maintain its funding at $132 million. More and more children around the world are in desperate need, and they are counting on the support you provide them through UNICEF.

Thank you for considering my request.
