Urge Louisiana Prosecutor to Get Animals out of Accused Hoarder's Hands for Good
Many, Louisiana's Jayne Welch faces 13 charges stemming from authorities' reported discovery of that many starved hoofed animals languishing on her Highway 1216 property in late May. Alarmingly, officials apparently left chickens and ducksreportedly found in inadequate conditions on the propertyin Welch's charge. Those animals need your voice today. We politely petition that
Mr. Burkett to do the right thingfor the convicted and the animals alikeby ensuring that the birds mentioned above are immediately seized and by seeking a lifelong ban on Welch's contact with all animals should she be convicted.
Eight goats, four horses and a donkey apparently were so starved that they ate bark off trees.
The
animals seized from a Many woman earlier this week are being nursed
back to health while sheriff's deputies keep an eye on chickens and
ducks that were left on the property. The ducks and chickens were left
with the owner with an admonishment to improve their care over the next
60 days or face seizure of those as well, said Sabine sheriff's Lt.
Tommy Sandel.
The horses were said to have been found suffering from hair loss and to
have been deprived of proper hoof care. While those animals were
rescued, an unknown number of fowl were left with Welch and are
reportedly being "monitored" by officials.
The responsibility of prosecuting Ms. Welch lies with the office of The
Honorable Don Burkett. Please respectfully remind Mr. Burkett that animal hoardingin
which even the best intentions to care for large numbers of animals are
irrelevant and bring suffering and death to manydemands a lasting
measure from the judicial system.
We politely petition that Mr. Burkett to do the right thingfor the convicted and the animals alikeby ensuring that the birds mentioned above are immediately seized and by seeking a lifelong ban on Welch's contact with all animals should she be convicted.
