The Rainforests are under constant threat from Man, yet they
safeguard our existence on this planet. Lets save them and us!
The Rainforests are critical for maintaining the environmental
balance within the ecosystem, to avert global warming and
climatic shift.
Our planet's future depends upon the balance of the elements

| 3,693 | 3:30 pm PDT, May 14 | Ms. | Beverly Lee | Washington | United States | Everything we can do to save the rain forests saves human health and the health and future of the earth, including deforestation for timber. One of the many websites about this say we should all decrease our hamburger intake by at least one a week. At the same time you will be helping to decrease rainforest destruction which causes global warming and thousands of deaths worldwide from natural disasters. This will protect the earth for your future and the future of your children and grandchildren. Basic human health is dependent upon a good oxygen level, as every serious and painful disease shows low oxygen levels. The rainforest that is so necessary to human life by limiting the earths oxygen loss, to prevent global warming and natural disasters. The destruction of the rain forests are about 70% due to clearing for cattle grazing for hamburger and processed food production. The other major offender is for lumber and some paper products. It is proven in hundreds of unrelated scientific studies that the more hamburger you eat, the more you will increase your risk of breast and colon cancer, stroke and heart disease. Countries where people can not afford to buy meat do not have cancers, and most other painful degenerative diseases that are so prevalent in our earth's more developed countries. Please protect your own future and health. Global warming threatens everyone. The rain forests are necessary for human health and the earth's oxygen level which affects the health of every human is already greatly decreased due to rainforest destruction. Not to mention starvation due to all the grains used to feed animals for meat production and all the species of plants and animals that are being lost forever. Many plants found in the rainforest are necessary to make the drugs that treat serious disease where you live. I would not want to have to pay spiritually for this complete destruction of many of God's wonderful creations, and forever is such a long time to be in either a good place or a bad place. I have a fairly clean conscience, I eat a hamburger about five times a year, and I do use cashews and hazel nuts etc which are grown in the rainforest. About 70% of rain forest destruction is for land for cows to graze on so these greasy artery clogging hamburger fast food places can have cheaper sources of ground up cows and e-coli. This will also add to the increases of deadly bacteria in the water supplies, oceans etc worldwide as it spreads everywhere. I read that cheap lumber and the use of so much paper products not being recycled is a smaller portion but still a reason for the destruction the rain forests. This is extreme insanity to destroy the health of the earth and the possibility of humans being healthy just for hamburgers and lumber that is slightly less financially expensive. May God forgive me if I have ever been guilty of such selfish destruction. I don't think God would forgive anyone if they do such things and know what they are doing. |

| 3,688 | 3:21 pm PDT, Mar 14 | Mr. | Anonymous | United Kingdom | In 1950, about 15 percent of the Earth's land surface was covered by rainforest. Today, more than half has already gone up in smoke. In fewer than fifty years, more than half of the world's tropical rainforests have fallen victim to fire and the chain saw, and the rate of destruction is still accelerating. Unbelievably, more than 200,000 acres of rainforest are burned every day. That is more than 150 acres lost every minute of every day, and 78 million acres lost every year! More than 20 percent of the Amazon rainforest is already gone, and much more is severely threatened as the destruction continues. It is estimated that the Amazon alone is vanishing at a rate of 20,000 square miles a year. If nothing is done to curb this trend, the entire Amazon could well be gone within fifty years. | |

Save The Rainforests!
We are all aware of the environmental changes happening around the world at the moment, with changing weather patterns occurring more so now than in the last twenty years. These changes are the result of Global Warming which has accelerated due to an increasing reliance on fossil fuels and the destruction of the Great Rainforests of the World.
This has caused the Earth to become unbalanced. Never before in our lifetime has man destroyed the one thing that has kept the Earth in its balance. With the release of Carbon Dioxide, through fossil fuels used throughout the world in transport, machinery and industrial pollution, and with an increasing population, we have in fact created a huge Greenhouse effect that will adversely affect the lives of our children!
You may think that weather patterns will change but global warming brings a new danger. The inside of the Earth is changing and with it, new earthquakes will shake and volcanoes will erupt. We can help to reverse this effect by stopping the deforestation which will slowly return the Earth's temperature to the equilibrium that Nature depends upon.
The rainforests are being destroyed at an alarming rate. We are told the size of a football field each second! They suck up the Carbon Dioxide and release Oxygen for us to breath. You can see that with the destruction of the forests, there is nowhere for these poisonous gases to go but into the atmosphere. This causes the Earth to heat up, creating all sorts of problems; disease, drought, floods and famine. This is happening all around the world.
With the Earth heating up, the ice caps will melt, (with signs of this happening already). If that is not enough, there is another danger lurking within the seas of the Earth. Like the Gulfstream that circulates warm air, the conveyor belt-like system that drives warm water around the Earth is slowly being switched off. With the polar ice caps melting, more fresh water is being released into the salt water thereby slowly turning the belt off. Once this system is switched off, we will have no warm water and an ice age will ensue. This can happen at any time!!
We beg you to urge all our nations' leaders to stop this disastrous cycle today!
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
