Every year, thousands upon thousands of young women (and some men in rare cases) are diagnosed with anorexia, bullemia or some other form of eating disorder.
However, over the past couple of years I have noticed a significant increase in websites that are considered to be "Pro-Eating Disorder" sites. Now, I'm not talking about support forums that are out there for the recovering people. I am talking about websites that promote eating disorders by handing out tips, tricks and pictures on "how to" be an anorexic/bullemic.
What kind of example are we setting by allowing these sites on the internet? Young girls (especially the ages of 10-16) are easily influenced by what they see and read. These websites are promoting eating disorders; saying that it's 'okay' to be anorexic/bullemic.... that these young girls (now even a lot of cases are includes middle aged women) should have an eating disorder.
I understand that magazines, actresses, models- etc. do not help the situation our girls are in when faced with the issue of weight. As many of you noticed, though, that these magazines, actresses and models are not going around saying "Do this and this to be anorexic. Do this and this to be bullemic..." And I'm glad they are not.
But is it really okay for these sites to actually PROMOTE the eating disorders like it's a luxury to have one???
This is not okay! These websites should be banned- and maybe the owners of these sites that promote the idea of having an eating disorder should be charged with neglegence or reckless endangerment.
