Petition to Install a Gate at the Tony Sanchez-Gibson Intersection of the Willow Wood Subdivision in Albuquerque, NM

Residents of Willow Wood who are sick and tired of the incessant, excessive and grossly out-of-control use of our neighborhood as a thoroughfare for access to Kirtland AFB and Sandia National Labs should sign this petition.

The volume and speed of traffic using the Willow Wood Subdivision as a cut-through for accessing Sandia Labs, Kirtland Air Force Base, and the Sandia Science and Technology Park has increased significantly in recent years, creating a substantial hazard for residents, children and senior citizens. Concerned parents are reluctant to allow their children to ride bicycles on our streets and senior citizens are similarly hesitant about walking in the neighborhood. As a result, our residents’ quality of life is being diminished by inconsiderate and dangerous drivers. For this reason, we, the undersigned residents of Willow Wood Subdivision, request that the City of Albuquerque 1) cede ownership to the Willow Wood Home Owner’s Association of the section of Tony Sanchez Drive between Jewel Cave Road and Gibson Boulevard and 2) Allow the Willow Wood Home Owner’s Association to install a gate which would limit vehicular traffic to the residents of Willow Wood by means of an automatic gate which would be opened by means of access cards, to be issued to all residents. It is understood that access by pedestrians and bicycles would be maintained, and the gate would only restrict motor vehicle traffic.
