Urge Congress to Make Student Financial Aid Simpler

At a time when college costs continue to increase and the average college senior graduates with $26,600 in student loan debt, we need to make it easier for students and their families to understand financial aid offers and exactly how much it will cost to attend college.

Senator Al Franken of Minnesota has introduced a bill in the Senate that would simplify the award process of financial aid, establishing an apples-to-apples comparison of college costs so that students can compare the offers they receive from different institutions.

College Possible is calling on Congress to pass legislation that will require colleges to use a uniform financial aid letter that will make it easier for students to know how much they're being awarded.

Take action today and help students access the aid they need to succeed!
To whom it may concern:

Numerous studies and surveys have shown that people are frequently unable to understand the application process for student aid. What's worse, applications differ from school to school, so parents and students have trouble making accurate comparisons of the options available to them.

Senator Al Franken, of Minnesota, has introduced a bill, the "Understanding the True Cost of College Act," that would provide for a uniform financial aid letter, as well as establish basic minimums of information for financial aid letters.

I call on you to support the passage of this bill, and to provide the simplification our students need when applying for student aid.
