Sen. Clinton: For Peace, and Integrity in Government
Urge Senator Clinton to stand up for Peace, and Integrity in our government. NOW is the time, as the Senate and House will be debating the Supplemental Funding request in Washington in mid-April.
Americans for some time have clearly understood the results of past Congressional ineffectiveness in the face of the Imperial/Unitary Executive. As citizens, we are all responsible for the results of what our country has done in our name. We are all responsible for thousands of dead and grievously wounded American soldiers and Iraqi civilians, thousands of shattered families, the looting of our treasury to the detriment of any other national priority, and destruction of America’s reputation around the world.
We are all responsible for what our country does, but at this point only Congress can actually do anything about it. Now, finally, and for the first time, both houses of Congress are supposedly standing up to this President. When the joint committee reconciles the two versions of the Supplemental, you must deliver more than “a message”. You must truly use the Power of The Purse to bring home ALL American forces (not just “combat troops”) from Iraq, other than those solely involved in reconstruction efforts. Voters were loud and clear last November: we want our soldiers home now, and we expect strong and responsible oversight and accountability from both houses of Congress. I am encouraged by many of the investigations now underway. And, stopping the war remains the moral imperative of our time. Your direct action to bring our soldiers home now must accompany your attempts to restore Congressional checks and balances as strong counter-measures to an Executive addicted to war.
