Save the Dune Fan Film by Mediteatro

Target:
The sleepers must awaken - Dune fans world-wide, UNITE!
Some of you may already know that a Spanish amateur crew of filmmakers was in the process of making a new version of the first three novels of Frank Herbert's Dune saga (DUNE, MUADDIB & THE PROPHET) The project is a fan film with non-commercial purposes wich has been made without financing from any institution or company. It is almost finished, and there will be three long-length films. Unfortunately, the trailer of this fan film, which was previously posted on YouTube, has been pulled and made unavailable - citing copyright claim by Herbert Properties, LLC.  Furthermore, the entire movie project has now been cancelled, for the same reason stated above. We, the united, orthodox Herbertarian movie fans, ask that HLP reconsider their hasty decision and allow this trilogy to see the light of WWW.

We, the undersigned Dune Fans, respectfully ask that the Herbert Properties Limited RECONSIDER their stance on the cancellation of the Dune trilogy Fan Film, created by Mediteatro Producciones Audiovisuales.  We ask that all Dune and science fiction fans who support this noble endeavor make your voice heard and put your signature to this petition - as a sign of solidarity and acknowledgment of all the hard work and self-sacrifice made on behalf of the 150 Spanish Dune fans.

Thus far, the movie has been cancelled, due to a copyright claim by Herbert Properties, LLC. Some of us were fortunate to view the trailer of this film, before it was pulled from YouTube. All of us who have been lucky enough to see it, were extremely saddened, disappointed and frustrated at HLP's decision to have it removed and the movie project cancelled.

With all due respect, we ask that the Herbert Partnership re-evaluates its decision and allows the Dune fan trilogy to see the light of day. All we ask, is a fair consideration -  and a fair recognition of all the selfless and noble efforts of the fans, to bring this tribute to their beloved author, Frank Herbert, to life.  Thank you for taking your time to read and consider this petition.

The creators of the Dune fan film are people who have been patient, hard-working, creative and generous enough to share with the rest of the world the reason why Dune continues to live on.

All of us who share the Dune passion would like to see this work of art unravel as part of something generations upon generations have come to love and admire. Bi-la kaifa.

These people merley wanted to express their enjoyment of Mr. Herbert's literature. This film doesn't harm anybody and would be interesting to view for fans. It may also introduce new fans.

Its a disgrace so much fan given time and effort should be thrown away when it was all freely given in respect for the series and the original auther. I see no impact on the other itterations of the series so why the refusal if either party would care to elaberate a little more than copyright issues that would be better.

Frank Herbert created a masterpiece of literature that has endured for 40 years. The Herbert Limited Partnership has become a money grubbing machine, Turning Dune into a Brand Name, instead of something cherished. These forces need to be stopped, and effort by Orthodox Herbertarian Fans Like these, and others should be allowed to be heard and seen.

Mediteatro stated plainly they had no intention of monetary gain, there efforts were of pure fandom. Crushing a set of fans who went to a major effort like this will do damage that doenst need to be done.

So new generations will become interested in the Dune series and bring it to life.

Allow fans to express themselves.

Allow fans to express themselves. It's called freedom.

It is very important that people get the chance to express their love for this great work and experience it in as many ways as possible.

This would result in absolutely ZERO monetary loss to the Herbert Limited Partnership. This move has become a serious black eye in the HLP's reputation and if anything will result in boycotting of HLP sanctioned media.

Please consider, for example, how many musicians have interpreted Beethoven, or Mozart, or any other of the genius classical composers of all time. Dune is part of mankind's culture just as any other classic art work can be, and trying to suppress an interpretation that has no other purpose than spreading this culture *for free* is stopping the natural evolution of it. Even if you are greedy minded and only think of business, consider of all the free promotion you would get for the work you own, how many new readers and fans this movie would attract to the Dune universe, all at the cost of people who have spent their hard earned money, and their time and effort.

Shortly said, you are rejecting a gift! a gift to you and to thousands of other people.

Only such an awesome and generous artistic endeavour "caters for this market" (I dare hope one cares I'm more than a market...). Plainly: We won't ever get something like that even if _David Lynch_ decided to remake.

They (150 people?) have put seven years of their work into this. For no money. This tells a lot, without even consideration of the rest.

Please, allow the Dune Fan Film to continue.

I think fan's should have the chance to create and share this... Why does it matter, if they're not making any profit off of it? Look at all the "Star Wars" fan films popping up every day, and George Lucas doesn't seem to have any problems with them... In fact, you guys should be embracing the fact that fans would put so much work into a project like this; it's free promotion for you. Again, please give this project your okay.

It is important to allow this release for free on the internet because fans have loyally followed Dune thru the decades. And if Dune wants to continue to grow in fans it most allow those who enjoy it to express their enjoyment thru the visual medium.

Because it doesn't harm anyone. In fact, it helps get free publicity to sell books! Star wars and star trek fan film as common place. The creators/publishers of Dune should not stifle the fans creative energy for no reason.

Why is this issue important to us, as Frank Herbert/Dune fans? Freedom of expression. Because it was made and love and respect- not for profit and the only reason for not allowing it is greed. There is no copyright infringement per se.

Why should the Mediteatro Dune fan film be allowed to be shown and shared with the Dune fan community? Because it it right. Because it could have been me doing this film. Because it could have been any one of us fans who dot it for love and respect. Becasue Herbert Heirs greed over imagined infringement is plain out stupid and paranoid and ungracious.

It's a nice book. Another film adaptation would be appreciated by a lot of people who've read it and liked it.

Surely doesn't the making of this film reflect how much the community appreciates Frank's work? It seems such a shame to let, what, 8 years (?) or so of work to be left unreleased... All that committment, effort and time these people have spent on a project that deserves recognition for what it is: a contribution to the community and a way of acknowledging Frank's great story. And now it's going to waste. Go on, let 'em release it!!!! Can it hurt that much not to ??!?!!!!

Anyone who puts in this much work, time and effort just for the love of a thing deserves to, at least, the opportunity to see their dream completed.

I love dune, when you read it takes you to the place in the book, it makes you part of the book.

There are many reasons why but the way media i now it's not going to hurt the herberts. It will help them look at what Ghosts did for Nine Inch nails.

Please change your stance on this.

This will help spread the Dune name. Most people I know are not aware of the amazing quality of storytelling and themes in the books.

If viewing is free then I cannot see why this footage cannot be released. If successful, it will only increase the interest in the products sold by the HLP.
