Stop the Rodeo as an Olympic Event!

On February 9th, 2002, the Salt Lake Organizing Committee (SLOC) held a rodeo as part of the Olympic Arts Festival.
This "Olympic Command Performance Rodeo" was the disgrace of animal loving Americans nationwide. Our country was presented to the world as one that exploits and tortures animals for amusement. Furthermore, the idea of a Rodeo as an artistic event, deserving a part in an arts festival, is absurd. And most importantly, the rodeo caused innumerable animals to feel intense pain, intense anger, and for a few, even death.
Olympic organizers have stated that if just 2 percent of the Utah population would oppose the plans for a rodeo, they would reconsider hosting it. Everyone, not just the people from Utah, need to protest this horrible event!

Furthermore, the idea of a Rodeo as an artistic event, deserving a part in an arts festival, is absurd. And most importantly, the pain and suffering that was inflicted upon innocent and defenseless animals in the rodeo is inexcusable. These animals, having the ability to feel pain just like us, were tortured for pure amusement.
We, the undersigned, insist that you stop hosting such a deplorable event as the Rodeo immediately. It has no place amongst civilized individuals, and definitely no place in an arts festival. It is not art, it id pain and suffering, it is not to be admired but deplored!
