Want a Faster, More Reliable Commute?

Target: New York Traffic Commission
Sponsored by: Campaign for New York's Future
Think your commute is bad now? Add a million more people to the equation and we might have a transportation meltdown! We need a plan that will keep New York City moving, make public transportation faster and more reliable, cut traffic and reduce air pollution and global warming emissions. And now we have that plan: a modified congestion pricing program.

Tell your state legislators to pass congestion pricing and reduce traffic, cut commute times, and fund public transportation across all neighborhoods.

Dear Legislator,

I am writing to thank you for creating the Traffic Congestion Mitigation Commission last summer. I urge you to adopt the congestion pricing plan that the commission is recommending after months of study, community hearings and deliberation. New York City needs this congestion pricing plan in order to improve commutes today and make the city ready for the expected one million new residents moving here in the next 25 years.

This is a plan that:

* Achieves real traffic reductions - reductions at least as great as the Mayor's initial congestion pricing proposal

* Raises $474 million per year to improve the public transit system most New Yorkers, especially lower income New Yorkers, depend on

I support the idea of congestion pricing because I feel that the funds raised would not only encourage the use of public transport but also help more quality of transportation and prevent possibly future fare hikes.

Encourage carpooling, reduce gas-hog SUVs from the city streets with only 1 person in them, fund MTA projects aimed at improving mass transit whilst minimising fare increases, cleaner air quality, less fuel used by all.

This will significantly reduce trafic throughout the five boroughs as less will travel through the outer boroughs to reach Manhattan!

NY should prioritize the health of the people and the planet, rather than the convenience of the minority who are car owners.
