Join The Million Bulb Swap Out to Fight Global Warming

Sponsored by: Environmental Defense

Pledge to switch your regular light bulbs to energy-saving bulbs.
Burning fossil fuels to power our homes and run our cars creates global warming pollution. But you can reduce your global warming pollution by changing old, incandescent lights to newer energy-saving models, or compact fluorescent lights (CFLs).

Replace one 100-watt bulb with a just-as-bright 30-watt compact fluorescent, and cut more than 1,300 pounds of carbon dioxide pollution over the life of the bulb. Swap out two bulbs to lower your household emissions by more than a ton!

After taking the pledge, we'll send a letter to your Congressional representative asking them to follow your lead!

Higher temperatures threaten dangerous consequences: drought, disease, floods, and the loss of precious endangered species. And amid the threat from rising oceans and extreme weather, global warning's effects have already begun.

But solutions are in sight. We know where most heat-trapping gases come from: power plants and vehicles. And we know how to curb their emissions: modern technologies and stronger laws.

I am promising to fight global warming by changing [Number of Bulbs you Pledge to Change] traditional light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. These bulbs save energy and reduce global warming pollution. If every household replaced just three 60-watt incandescent light bulbs with CFLs, we would reduce as much pollution as if we took 3.5 million cars off the roads.

But more can be done. I urge you to work with Congress to pass stronger laws to curb emissions of greenhouse gases.

Sincerely,
