Grandparents are the only social group in this country denied their civil rights. Grandparents must have automatic rights to visitation with their grandchildren. They must have the automatic right to petition the courts should their rights be denied. The burden of proof must be on the parent(s).

WHO do we contact? its so unfair, I have seen him 3 times since his birth, when he came home, which the boyfriend would not allow anyone to hold him, not even the babys own mommy, he always told her she did everything wrong. at her funeral...and for a few minutes when we went to put her vase on her grave. we are a part of his life, for my daughter gave birth to him.I have not had anyone to talk to about this and despertly need a friend or several in the same situation as me, I cry everyday, as well as others. please feel free to contact me at my e-mail. us grandparents deserve to see our babies. | 4,930 | 9:13 pm PDT, Jul 9 | Mrs. | Juli Kellermann | east bethel | Minnesota | United States | I am a 51 yr. old grandmother who has had to let my daughter, son-in-law and 3 children live with me 4 times, once just the daugher and the 3 children, because the father abandoned them, they lost their house, medical and we spent a lot of money saving her oldest daughter by paying cash for med. and Dr., daughter did not work, dad did not work at the time my husband and I did all caretaking , cooking, buying, medical, homework, B.D. parties, etc. Since that they could not afford daycare when they re-united so I quit my job, did daycare for free, every week-end, every holiday & spring break and all summers for the last 4 years un until now, dad is neglectful and abusive, I threatened to go for custody if he didn't get help, or anger mgmt., they cut us off totally in March of 09, no calls allowed, no visits, no letters allowed, they moved 2 1/2 hrs. away, the children were very attached to us, and would only report abuse, neglect, etc. to us, except for one incident the eldest told school counselor and they told s.Serv, who lectured him, he just became more manipulative and secretive with the neglect and abuse and threatened the children and tormented them to never tell again, they are depressed, scared and heartbroken about us being totally taken out of their lives, as the youngest has gone to my neices and called me, we are also mourning and very woried about them, we only want visitation and to be able to communicate with them, and to not worry about them being punished for wanting to see us and for loving us, and for trying to get help! Please help! My husband and myself are depressed and at our wits end, we spent a small fortune supporting and financially diging them out for almost 14 yrs.!!! I fear their , I mean the children's, lives will suffer and their physical and mental health will suffer also, they need to see us, and we need to know they are o.k., and they need not to be punished for wanting to see and love, and report abuse to us, I believe they are not so afraid of him, and his consequences they will never seek help again from the s. serv. |

This is selfishness of the parents and they should be held responsible for not behaving in the best intrest of the children. So many grandparents are asked to take care of the children when the parents are not doing right by them and then when the courts give them back to the parents they take the child away from the grandparents. After they have lived with us since our granddaughter's birth the father has shown up out of nowhere and wants to take her. We go to court and are told, not only did you lose your daughter, but you have also lost your granddaughter and the father has the right to refuse you visitation. Get her used to him because thats where she's going to to living soon.These were the exact words said by a judge, how cold can someone be. this is the person my grandchild life is in the hands of. Maybe she didn't mean it the way I took it. But because of our fl laws this is the way it is. Give him open door visitation. she said, well we did just that, five weeks later and only 3 short phone calls. He has changed her DR's appointments and Told DR's office to not give any information to grandparents, so that we can't even see her at the DR's. It seems once he got a at home visit he's not giving her back. I had to show them Temporary custody papers to get info at the Dr. Yesterday I drove 4 hours to make an attempt to see her. He did answere the door but just like I thought I was turned away. I was very nice. I didn't even say anything about the DR to him. So my next stop was the sheriff's department. No go, I m thinking what is going on here, because the papers say open door that means to them that they can't tell when he supposed to have her or not. This was supposed to take time for her to adjust, I wasen't ever keeping her away from him. I just wanted it to be done the right way, not snatched out of the only home she has ever known and that's exactly what happened and there is nothing I can do. Unless something is done to help our children keep family's together (That means not just moms and Dads). They are going to suffer all kinds of mental issues. This world has become so selfish that people can't even hear thier children crying. Why do you think they start to look to troubled lives? Please wake up America | |

But while they were at my house who is grandparent the children were acting strange as if their mines were being control , my grandson 8 years old, spoke out and said their step father beats them and he show me the marks on his body my grand daughter who was 10 at the time of visited was waking up with night mares I call child abuse unit they look him up and saw he had a record for battered abuse from first wife. and said that children are to get spank if they don't listen I feel if thats the case their father is still alive and their mother why is Florida State allowing these type of people to deal with children and the children in harm and pain and suffering. Well because I reported this matter about my grandchildren in danger , the mother said they could never speak or hear from me again My son came over upset with me Because said I mess up his visitation rights. I am crying this moment because it hurts to see my blood grand children in pain its a different feeling from having your children you birth and being near your grandchildren. SO THIS STATE LAW NEEDS TO GO TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE US IT MUST BE STOP-- AND PARENTS IN FLORIDA USE THIS LAW AGAINST --THE PARENTS AND THE GRANDPARENTS THIS LAW IS- UNFAIR AND THE LAW- IS THE ONE HURTING ALL THESE YOUNG CHILDREN IN FLORIDA.
