The Face of Poverty: Stand with Her for Equality and Opportunity

This is the face of poverty:

As a girl, she is often the last to eat and the first to be kept home from school as her family struggles from poverty. And as a woman, she is frequently denied the right to own the land she has farmed her entire life, earn an income, hold a bank account, access medical aid or live free from violence and abuse.

Just like millions of other women and girls in the world's poorest communities, her hope of escaping poverty is too often limited by discrimination and injustice.

She can overcome poverty and social injustice. With the proper resources like education, women transfer improvements in their own lives into the lives of their children, families and communities. Strong, empowered women have a voice, choice, and a seat at the table.

Unfortunately, the voices of women like Katiba from Yemen are all too often ignored. That's why she needs you to speak up, to help shine a light on discrimination, and to open doors to opportunity that can help her escape poverty.

Speak out in support of equality and opportunity for all women and girls. Please take action and join the growing movement for gender equality, and ultimately, an end to poverty.
