Fumigants have drifted into communities and resulted in mass poisonings. The toxic pesticides have triggered evacuation of hundreds of people from their homes and sent many to the hospital.
These pesticides are used to sterilize soil before planting many crops like strawberries, tomatoes, carrots, peppers, potatoes, and tobacco. They're also used to fumigate stored food, greenhouses and imported goods. In fact, fumigants account for about 10 percent of all pesticides used in the U.S.
The EPA is holding a public comment period on fumigant re-registrations. Tell them to protect the public from the health hazards of these volatile poisons!
Demand the EPA start phasing out fumigants by enacting the highest safety precautions possible for fumigant pesticides.|
