Show the Candidates the Many Faces of Climate Change

Target: U.S. Presidential Candidates
Sponsored by: 1Sky

The debate is over -- the National Academy of Sciences and thousands of scientists agree that the planet is warming. Now it's time to make the effects of global warming real for the presidential candidates.

Is global warming putting you and your community at risk for floods or hurricanes? Is it making water more scarce? Sign the petition, and let the presidential candidates know!

After a decade of stalling, we need real leadership on climate change:

  • Job creation in a clean energy economy.
  • A moratorium on building new coal-fired power plants.
  • The reduction of emissions levels in scale with what the science demands.

Tell the candidates what global warming means to your community and tell them to commit to be climate leaders in 2008 and beyond.

deadline: Ongoing...
goal: 25,000

Dear [Decision Maker]

The debate is over. The National Academy of Sciences and thousands of scientists worldwide agree that the planet is warming and that human dependence on fossil fuels such as coal and oil is the primary cause. If we do not act quickly and boldly, we will face irreversible and potentially devastating climate change impacts. There is still time to rise to the challenge, but America needs strong leadership to do so.

We need to:

* Create 5 million green jobs, conserving 20% of our energy by 2015.
* Freeze climate pollution levels now and cut at least 80% by 2050 and 25% by 2020.
* No new coal plants that emit global warming pollution. Invest in renewable energy.

The very air that we breath and the water supply. Plus, violate storms and flooding.

Get off the stick you scare-crows and do something.think tank ? all people hire is full fledged retards these days. Even the million trees planted in the rain forest won't do much good because the older tress were living with water that was sunk way underground and there is likely less rain to water those new trees so if they live it will be a miracle.

With global warming comes both new challenges and new opportunities. WE can find renewable energy alternatives that help us not only with global warming but with other pollution issues. We can train generations to come in green jobs, rather than try to keep antiquated industries in business to the detriment of all but the industries themselves. This is the time for change and we can do it, if we have the will. Please find that will in your self and help the American people find employment in ways that will make the world safe for generations to come.

no nuclear and no coal burning and meaningful research into non-energy intensive renewable energy....no corn ethanol, go to hemp or switchgrass, the future is at stake, the death and destruction of people and animals is coming, lets mitigate it now.

the future is at stake and we need to act responsibly now. We don't need nuclear power or fossil fuels, we need non-polluting, non-energy intensive renewable energy

Since the weather is so outrageous and unpredictable, I would assume that this is because of global warming due to our not caring for our planet. Right now, today, we are flooding, having tornados and rain and hail. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE FAST OR IT IS DOOMS DAY FOR THE HUMAN RACE.

While the ridiculous debate over whether or not climate warming is real, many people have been hurt. In Missouri alone, where I live, there has been over thirty tornadoes in the 2008 alone. These deadly twisters have taken numerous lives and have destroyed countless communities and families. Something needs to be done to put an end to this. This planet is warming at an alarming rate and its effects are deadly and devastating. Please help to divert this calamity that if not stopped, has the power to destroy this planet as we know it.

We are fighting to stop a coal company from building a new coal plant in Western Ks. Our fight has been won so far but we must keep our vigilence.
