untitled petition
Did you know
that the US government
is sending disabled troops into active duty? Our soldiers that have been diagnosed
with mental disorders are considered fit for active service supporting and participating
in operation Iraqi Freedom.
My husband, who
is currently in the Inactive Ready Reserves, has been approved for active duty
through what is known as the “Back Door Draft”. He was also diagnosed in March
of 2003 with depression and anxiety with obsessive compulsive tendencies. He
takes a daily regiment of drugs including Klonopin and Paxil, and is under the
care of a psychiatrist. Without medication and regular monitoring by his doctor,
these symptoms can be debilitating. High stress situations have been known to
cause server anxiety attacks even at this point in his recovery.
He is only one
of many soldiers who suffer from mental disabilities. Many of our soldiers who
are serving in operation Iraqi Freedom suffer from post traumatic stress disorder
and are still being sent back into active duty instead of being given adequate treatment.
Though these individuals might not have any visible signs such as missing limbs
or bandages that show you they are not fit for service, believe me when I tell
you that mental illness is debilitating and these soldiers should not be called
upon for duty.
Please join me
in saying that mental illness is a disability and anyone suffering from this disability
should be excluded from service for medical reasons.
Thank you for helping us make a
statement!
