Make Sure Californians Get Quality Health Care Reform!

Target: Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger; Senator Sheila Kuehl; Senate President pro Tem Don Perata; Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez
Sponsored by: Consumers Union
The time has come for health care reform in California. The legislature and Governor have realized what we all know -- that 6.5 million uninsured Californians is unacceptable, health care costs are spiraling out of control, and we need to improve and expand our health care system to cover all Californians.

But we need more than just insurance coverage. Over 7,000 Californians die every year from hospital infections, according to the California Dept. of Health Services - eliminating these infections alone would save an estimated $3 billion per year in California. And a recent report revealed that medication errors harm 150,000 Californians and cost the state over $17 billion every year!

In his health care reform proposal, Governor Schwarzenegger recognized that in order to provide all Californians with top quality health care, we must reduce the rates of medical errors. We need your help to make sure that strong safety improvements to reduce medical errors are included in any final reform bill that reaches the Governor's desk. Send a message to the policy makers who are currently sponsoring legislation by signing this petition today!

Make sure California's health reform is safe!

Dear [Decision Maker],

I strongly commend you for your commitment to reforming California's health care system. Affordable health care is critical for consumers and for the state's economy. Strong safety and quality improvements must be part of any reform package, and I urge you to add measures that will cut costs and save lives.

Studies have shown that Americans get the right care only half the time, and medical errors and hospital infections cost Californians' their lives as well as billions of dollars each year. Eliminating hospital infections alone, by requiring hospitals to publicly disclose infection rates, would save $3 billion per year--dollars we need for comprehensive reform and to control spiraling health care costs.

I urge you to enact consumer friendly, comprehensive health insurance reform that has quality and safety measures, including public reporting of hospital infection rates, to save lives and control spiraling health care costs.

Sincerely,

I am a licensed teacher and administrator, who because of the state of education today, has chosen to educate her children at home. I do not feel that anyone has the right, or authority, to tell me how to educate my children. Unless the state of public education improves my children will not be a public school classroom.

If we dont have affordable health care for all classes of people including the middle class this country will be financially wealthy from pharmacy company's wile it's citizens are bankrupted and ruined over an illness . Just a ambulance ride to the hospital is 600.00 dollars that's outrageous for a taxi and an IV ? Come on we can do better than that thank you for helping keep us a float.

Follow the RX of France, England, Canada, and even Cuba. National Health Care means a happy population, reduced crime, better future for our children. Take the profit out of medicine, make health care available to all human beings

We need to unite and take care of each other.Everybody deserves to have health care, No one is better than another because they have money and deserve no less than someone who can afford it.We all came into this world with nothing we leave this world with what we've learned in this life .We all deserve to be taken care of no matter what we have or what we don't have. One day I hope to see this come to be. Love and life and equal treatment. Laurie

We need Universal Health Coverage for all Californians (as well as Americans)and should settle for nothing less! There is more than enough funding for health care in this wealthy country, but we, the people, must stop our representatives from continuing to give our current US administration the money they need to wage war(i.e.murder people with no consequences) and demand that this money go to care for people's lives rather than harm and kill.
