TAKE THE CRUISE POLLUTION PLEDGE!
STOP CRUISE SHIP POLLUTION

Alarming but TRUE, every day Royal Caribbean ships dump sewage in the ocean.

Every day, Royal Caribbean cruise ships dump millions of gallons of inadequately treated sewage and untreated wastewater into the ocean. This pollution is preventable. Affordable technology exists to correct the problem yet all but 3 Royal Caribbean ships lack the proper technology.

Sewage carries bacteria and viruses that are harmful to human health, and can also sicken and kill marine life, including corals. Fecal coliform from sewage is a type of bacteria that has closed beaches and contaminated shellfish! Gray water from showers, sinks, floor drains and beauty salons can contain fecal waste and toxic chemicals and is dumped into the ocean untreated.

AND, there's the ILLEGAL dumping: From 1993 to 1998, cruise ships were involved in 87 confirmed cases of illegal discharges of oil, garbage and hazardous wastes into U.S. waters. In 1998 and 1999 Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. was fined more than $26 million for fleet wide practices of discharging oil-contaminated waste, regularly and routinely discharging without a permit wastewater contaminated by pollutants, and making false statements to the Coast Guard.

Will you get on board before they make these important changes?

Tell Royal Caribbean and its subsidiary, Celebrity Cruises, to stop polluting! Pledge not to take a cruise until the company agrees to upgrade its entire fleet with advanced wastewater treatment technology and submits to independent, third-party monitoring and testing to protect our oceans.
