Stop Cuts to International Conservation

Almost all of the world's lemur species are threatened with extinction thanks to the pressures of rampant deforestation and a warming climate. The lemurs of Madagascar may be the most endangered mammal group on Earth.

The Nature Conservancy and our partners are working hard to ensure that species like the endangered giant bamboo lemur have a fighting chance by slowing the onslaught of deforestation. But the recently proposed federal budget could make saving this species much harder, by drastically cutting funding for programs that protect forests from deforestation.

In fact, funding to help other nations conserve their natural resources and protect their imperiled wildlife would be dramatically cut by more than 81%.

If enacted, the President's budget will devastate strong conservation progress around the world and threaten animals like lemurs with extinction. And if we cut funding to protect forests worldwide, we'll lose another tool to curb greenhouse gas emissions, increasing the threat of climate change.

We need Congress to fully fund international conservation programs right now. Call on Congress today to protect funding for international conservation that the lemur and other wildlife depends on.
