Women have made huge strides in the century since the first International Woman's Day. But more than 100 years later, women have still not achieved full equality -- especially in the workplace.
An Australian Human Resources Institute survey -- which included some of the nation's biggest companies -- found a majority of organisations didn't have any strategy to make sure women had equal chances to get jobs, keep them and get promoted. In fact, more than a third of the respondents reported seeing or experiencing gender bias in their offices and paychecks.
Women shouldn't have to wait another 100 years to be able to expect equal treatment at work. Tell the Minister for the Status of Women to strengthen the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency. It's time for Australia to make gender equality in the workplace a priority.
Dear Ms. Ellis,
More than 100 years after the first International Women's Day, Australian women still face inequality in the workplace.
A survey by the Australian Human Resources Institute -- which included some of the nation's biggest companies -- found that most organisations don't even have a strategy to ensure equity in hiring and promotion. More than one-third of respondents have seen or experienced discrimination in their office or seen it in paychecks.
Please strengthen the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency and make workplace equality a priority.
Sincerely,
