Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, which spans the border between Montana and Canada, is a globally significant biological hotspot, protecting elk, moose, deer, mountain goats, bull trout and a host of other wildlife and plant species. It is also one of the most intact and diverse ecosystems in this type of climate in the world.
But multiple proposals for mountain-top removal coal mines and coalbed methane extraction in this area are threatening this pristine area. These include Cline Mining's Lodgepole Mine, which the U.S. State Department has opposed due to "significant adverse impacts."
We need to make sure this area is protected. Please send a letter to the Honorable Michael H. Wilson, Canadian Ambassador to the U.S. and tell him you want this area to be safe from mining.
To the Honorable Michael H. Wilson, Canadian Ambassador to the U.S.
I am writing to voice my support for any legislation that permanently and strongly protects the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park.
This area is one of the most intact and diverse ecosystems in this type of climate, and we cannot afford to lose valuable habitat for elk, moose, deer, mountain goats, bull trout and other species.
Many proposals for mountain-top removal mining and methane extraction are threatening this area. Please make sure that these proposals are rejected, and that this area remains intact.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
