Tell the Belarus President: No More Oppression!

As government oppression in Belarus increases and its economic crisis worsens, citizens have taken forms of protest that are growing more and more subtle. Now, the government has taken its repressive tactics one step further--by punishing Belorussians for little more than standing on a street corner.

In recent months, Belorussians have taken part in an increasing number of nonviolent protests, including group clapping, strolling and having cell phone alarms go off in unison. Now, authorities have cracked down on any sort of protest by imposing a law that prohibits large groups from gather for the purpose of protest "for the purpose of a form of action or inaction."

Belorussian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has gone too far. His 17 year presidency reflects a history of corruption and oppression. Citizens have every right to peacefully protest his rule.

Tell President Lukashenko that his citizens deserve a voice. Demand the end of laws prohibiting protests.
The right to free speech and expression should not be regulated by the government. It is an inherent human right, and to deny the people of Belarus that right is unacceptable.

The recent law prohibiting groups from gathering in protest in any sort of action or inaction goes beyond simply silencing protesters by making arrests. The people of Belarus deserve to have their voices heard without fear of prosecution. In a time of crisis it is the job of leaders to listen to their citizens, not silence and ignore them.

It is your responsibility to protect the rights of your people, not take them away.Stop oppressing the Belorussian public.
