We Want Menu Labeling Now! Americans Deserve To Know What We're Eating.

Did you know that the average entree at restaurants adds up to roughly 1,300 calories without factoring in the calories from drinks, appetizers, or desserts?!

That's why it's so surprising that the nutrition labels on our food have not been updated for decades. In order to make the best-informed decisions about what they eat, Americans should have all the information on the caloric count and nutritional content of the food options offered to them.

In 2014, a new rule passed requiring that calorie counts and revised nutritional information be available for all prepared foods. This applies to food served at all restaurants, movie theaters, grocery stores and other food vendors with the intention of helping consumers make better food choices when eating out.

However, just one day before the rule was due to go into effect, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the delay for its implementation until May 2018. This delay is contrary to public interest and, as such, we need to hold the FDA accountable!

Given the rising rates of obesity and obesity-related chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, the FDA should move forward with implementing the menu labeling as a preventative public health strategy in improving the health of Americans.

We cannot keep minimizing the importance of the health of Americans when we need to be working on creating sustainable health changes and goals to live longer and healthier lives.

Sign your name and tell the Trump administration and FDA to implement the menu labeling rule now!
