IMPORTANT UPDATE!
CLARA WAS EUTHANIZED IN MARCH OF 2007 AFTER 50 years of captivity at the St. Louis Zoo. Pearl now appears to have lost a great deal of weight. It may be too late for her.

Clara was euthanized on March 14, 2007, Rest in Peace, our friend. It was too late for her, but it is not too late for Pearl. Let her memory encourage us to urge the zoo to send Pearl to sanctuary so she does not suffer the same fate.
New Update as of 5pm CST 3-10-2007:
Concern for Clara. Elephant advocates have agreed that Clara is too close to death to survive the trip to sanctuary. We urge the St. Louis Zoo to do everything possible to make her last days comfortable and let her go, with love . The Zoo must be held accountable for her conditon afer 50 years there. Pearl can still be saved. Let the St. Louis Zoo know that if they cannot provide adequate conditons for their elephants they should be sent to sanctuary and close their elephant exhibit

SEND CLARA AND PEARL TO SANCTUARY NOW!
We urge The St. Louis Zoo to make the compassionate choice. Carol Buckley, co-founder of 'The Elephant Sanctuary " has made a commitment to transport and care for CLARA and PEARL Clara is suffering as her health deteriorates rapidly. Pearl is her dear friend and protector. Pearl has a prolapsed uterus and has constant urine burns from incontinence. Please let them spend the rest of their lives in peace -away from concrete and cages!
