Hold Big Oil Accountable for Paying the Full Cost

Currently, outdated legislation puts BP off the hook for damages above $75 million, even though this is less than one day's profit for BP!
Urge Congress to hold Big Oil polluters accountable to paying the full cost of their negligence.
Dear [Decision Maker],
I urge you to pass legislation that lifts the oil liability cap and the cap on punitive damages.
Oil companies and other corporations must be held accountable for doing their fair share to reduce pollution and to create a path that takes us truly beyond petroleum.
Legislation that lifts the oil liability cap and the cap on punitive damages will help ensure that Big Oil polluters like BP are held accountable to paying the full cost that their negligence has on our communities and our natural world. Fish and wildlife, and the many communities and jobs dependent on them, hang in the balance.
By raising the outdated $75 million oil liability cap--less than one day's profit for BP--you will spare American taxpayers from the burden of bailing out Big Oil polluters for their recklessness.
It's time for a new energy platform for America. That's why in addition to passing legislation that holds polluters accountable to their actions, we must also act swiftly to pass comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation that provides America with clean and safer energy choices.
