Elephant Raman who was under the custody of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math has been moved illegally to the custody of the Uttoly Group in Thrissur.

This is in direct violation of the interim order of the Honorable Supreme Court, passed when disposing IA 25 & 26 of 743/2014 on the 4th of May 2016. Here the Hon Court had said that “…persons who are in possession of elephants shall not transfer the elephants outside the state nor shall they part with the elephant by way of transfer in any manner”

How is it that, with such an order pending, that permision for this elephant to be moved was given by the concerned forest officials.

The said elephant is also being trained for festivals. If you look at the attached picture where the mahout is sitting on top of him, you will find a motorcycle chain with spikes on his left hind limb. This is the illegal and barbaric capture belt and the Mahout Aranmula Mohan is using a bull hook which has been banned by a direct order of the Chief Wildlife Warden. (TO the CWW – the question is why do you pass such orders when you have no intention of enforcing them?)

This is illegal under Sections 428 and 429 of IPC 1860; Sec 11 –a of PCA 1960, a violation of Sec 42 of the WPA and total contempt of court.

With this petition we ask you to immediately intervene and have the elephant sent back to the Math in Kollam immediately and have a inquiry launched.

Thanks
Regards
