Save the Ocelot from Border Fence

Target: Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff
Sponsored by: Care2
This Fall, Homeland Security plans to build hundreds of miles of fencing between Texas and Mexico. This fence has grave consequences for the small populations of Ocelots that still remain.

Ocelots are small endangered cats whose fur resembles a jaguar. There are between 85 and 100 remaining in the Texas area, and this fence will almost certainly disrupt the breeding patterns of these cats who move to Mexico for water and to breed.

A study conducted by Homeland Security details these risks and states that "efforts are underway to preserve key habitat and biological corridors necessary for ocelot survival."

Dear decision maker,

There are between 85 and 100 ocelots remaining in the Texas area, and the pending border fence project will surely disrupt the breeding patterns of this animal. I am writing to express my deep concern for this animal and to encourage you to do everything in your power to protect this and other species.

An environmental impact statement released by the Department of Homeland Security stated, "Habitat loss and fragmentation especially along the Rio Grande pose a critical threat to the long-term survival of the ocelot. Efforts are underway to preserve key habitat and biological corridors necessary for ocelot survival."

A fence really isn't the greatest idea....we should train the Ocelots to do our bidding.....Quid Pro Quo....

Creating more human separateness (that won't accomplish the desired political task anyhow) with fences - while endangering current animal inhabitants - not the way any of us will survive for long. Please have a rethink~~~

I want the fence very much. It is clear that illegal aliens do damage to our natural resources as they cross into our country illegally, and overload our environment once they are here. They contribute to waste, pollution and overcrowding so I want illegal immigration to stop immediately. However, I do want to accomplish this responsibly. The ocelot is important to our overall environment and our diverse ecosystem. Please be careful and take the necessary precautions. We are the United States of America. We can do the right things right. We must protect what we have left. Thanks much.
