Stop the forced relocation of Aboriginal peoples from their homelands by the Australian Government

  • by: Russell Osborne
  • recipient: The Australian Prime Minister Mr Tony Abbott.

Aboriginal People from remote communities are going to be forced to become political refugees and will be re-located to live in regional centres whereby the very real risk of homelessness, and other endemic issues already exist.

The Government will be creating a refugee problem along with its associated issues with Australia's original inhabitants within our own country.

The Aboriginal People in Remote Communities in W.A. and S.A are being forced from their homelands as the Governments proceed with their plans to close remote communities from regions where the families of such communities have lived for scores of thousands of years.

The loss of cultural identity with country and homelands will be a loss for us all. Knowledge, culture, connection, identity are especially important to the Aboriginal People and the argument posed by the Government of increased employment, education and better health outcomes through forceable relocation away from homeland will only further alienate those removed from their historical and cultural identity. The Governments arguments are ignorant of traditional Aboriginal education, history and cultural links with nature, country and ancestral beliefs.

To:

The Hon. Tony Abbott, MP

Prime Minister

Parliament House

CANBERRA ACT 2600

Dear Mr Abbott,

The closure of Aboriginal Communities is a very serious matter and one we, the undersigned of this petition strongly object to the closures for the following reasons.

1) The creation of economic refugees within Australia enhancing the process of cultural genocide goes against the very core of the true Australian ethos. That being, we are a compassionate nation, we care and look after the vunerable, we lend our mates a helping hand and we value the historical, cultural and ethical values of the First Australians.

2) The value to our nations identity through the very existence of Aboriginal culture on country is immence. We as a mature nation possess the willingness to embrace the first culture of Australia and encourage our fellow citizens to discover, learn and adopt many of the values contained within all Aboriginal Cultures right across this country, protecting the land and all contained within it for the preservation of nature and our connectiveness to nature and the land for our future generations to also have the opportunity to embrace such values.

3) We as a nation shall always protect the rights of our first Australians to be able to live on their mother countries, to look after such countries and continue to follow the ancient Ancestrial Laws and rituals as they have done so for scores of thousands of years. This can only be achieved through continued support of such communities through the development of effective and efficient systems of support.

Much of the above is of course utopian and the plight of many Aboriginal people in todays society is an area of great concern. The health and culture identity of the people who will be affected by such community closures would be seriously compromised and the overall effect of such an action would only further widen the gap between Aboriginal Nations and mainstream society.

We the signed of this petition argue strongly against the closure of the communities.

We the signed of this petition argue strongly against the forceable removal of anyone from ones home whether they be Aboriginal, White Australian, from an Asian nation, Europe, the Middle East or any where else for that matter, for political reasoning.

We the signed of this petition argue strongly against the creation of refugees of Australian citizens within Australian soil for any reason. This is exactly what the closure of the said communities is creating.

We ask you not to allow this to happen but rather to address any of the reported issues that have led to the policies for the closure of such communities either in place or being drafted in an intelligent, responsible and empathetic manner. In the true Australian manner, that being one of caring for our fellow Australians.

Thanking You

The undersigned to this petion and letter.

Tyranny of any sort cannot be accepted in a free country.
Please continue to fight this abismal policy of the Government, who are creating a group of refugees within Australia, by continuing to share this petition around.
