Help stop dog chain tethering in Marion County, Florida!

We urge Marion Commissioners Kathy Bryant, Stan McClain, Carl Zalak and Earl Arnette to re-address the anti-tethering ordinance that was inexplicably rejected.

The 4 commissioners' repeated refusal to pass legislation to outlaw, in Marion County, the practice of chaining dogs to stakes, in some cases without any shelter at all. These dogs have no place to get out of the rain, or heat, or cold in winter, and for many of them food and water are catch-as-catch can. Many of these dogs are either raised to fight, or used as bait in training fighting dogs. Whichever the case, the lives of these dogs is a dreadful horror show.

It's appalling that the same group of 4 commissioners has twice failed to protect man's best friend, while dismissing all requests for change. The commissioners have listened to presentations from the Marion County chapters of the Humane Society and SPCA, as well as from the county's shelter programs and numerous veterinarians in attendance, to urge passage of new, more humane law for all dogs. Following the more than 2 hour discussion of this issue in the fully packed county auditorium, a vote was taken and any changes in the law were immediately quashed with a 4-1 vote--(thanks to David Moore, to sole Marion County Commissioner to support the cause.)

Dear Marion County Commissioners  Kathy Bryant, Stan McClain, Carl Zalak and Earl Arnette,

We urge you to re-address the anti-tethering ordinance that was inexplicably rejected and pass legislation to outlaw, in Marion County, the practice of chaining dogs to stakes, in some cases without any shelter at all. These dogs have no place to get out of the rain, or heat, or cold in winter, and for many of them food and water are catch-as-catch can. Many of these dogs are either raised to fight, or used as bait in training fighting dogs. Whichever the case, the lives of these dogs is a dreadful horror show.

We urge you to do the right thing and pass the the anti-tethering ordinance now.
