Pledge to Celebrate the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on October 17th!

World leaders have committed themselves to cutting the number of people living in extreme poverty in half by 2015. That includes people whose income is less than one dollar a day. This is no easy feat, therefore working together is crucial. Countries from all over the world must work together to help end the cycle of poverty. You can start on October 17th, the International Day for Eradication of Poverty, by spreading awareness about how we can make a difference in the fight to end poverty.

Poverty begins in childhood when babies are born to poor, malnourished mothers. Because they are born into families that are poor, these children enter into a cycle of poverty that can be difficult to break. But, there is hope.

Poverty is passed from one generation to the next. Through their work, Plan Canada gives children, families and communities the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty. Education, healthcare, access to water and sanitation all help to break the cycle and build solutions for people to improve their own lives.

The UN has declared October 17th the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Make October 17th the day that you start standing up to promote awareness about the need to eliminate poverty from all countries.
