Make Barney Frank a Senator!

In his 16 years in Congress, Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank was a powerful voice for ordinary Americans, and he helped make financial reform a reality. Beyond his legislative record, Rep. Frank, the first sitting congressman to voluntarily come out as gay, was a powerful inspiration to the LGBT community. His retirement is a huge loss to our country.

Now that Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry has been nominated to be Secretary of State, Gov. Deval Patrick will need to appoint a new temporary senator until an election is held. Rep. Frank has said he wants the job -- and he should get it.

In the next three months, we'll likely face three more "fiscal cliff" votes, crucial gun control and immigration legislation, and maybe even a call for serious military action against Iran, not to mention the Supreme Court's decision to hear the case for marriage equality in March.

Urge Gov. Patrick to appoint Barney Frank to John Kerry's open Senate seat.
Dear Gov. Patrick,

I'm writing today to urge you to appoint Rep. Barney Frank to fill the Senate seat John Kerry is likely to vacate when he is confirmed as the next Secretary of State.

Rep. Frank has been an incredible public servant, pushing through historic financial reform, stridently speaking out for the interests of middle class Americans and serving as a role model for the LGBT community as the first congressman to voluntarily come out as gay.

With three more crucial votes on fiscal issues impending, gun control and immigration legislation in the works, and gay rights a central focus at the Supreme Court, Frank's unique experience makes him the perfect selection.
