Reverse Mississippi's Decision to Violate Electoral Law

Target: Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour
Sponsored by: Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee
Voters in Mississippi will have difficulty locating one of the most important races on their ballots this November because of the Republican Secretary of State's decision to bury the Senate race below all local contests - a move widely expected to help the Republican candidate.

Not only does this confuse voters, it's a direct violation of state election law, which clearly states that federal races must be on the top of the ballot.

Elections should be about the issues, not shady tactics to hide important races from voters. Tell Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour - who approved the ballot - to reverse his decision in order to maintain the integrity of America's electoral process!

Success!

Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour agreed to move the Senate race to the top of the ballot. Please click here for more petitions.
Dear Governor Barbour,

I am dismayed to learn of your approval of the ballot for November's election that puts the race between interim Senator Roger Wicker and former Governor Ronnie Musgrove below local races.

Mississippi election law, at code 23-15-367, clearly states federal races, like the race between Governor Musgrove and Senator Wicker, belong at the top of the ballot. The Secretary of State's attempts to hide this race from voters are not only illegal, they are morally reprehensible.

The integrity of elections in America are crucial. Voters deserve to choose between two candidates based on their stances on issues, not on whether they can search through the maze of their ballot to locate a buried race. Such dirty election tricks are wrong, and you should be ashamed of letting such a practice occur in your state.

I urge you to rethink your decision. Please place the Senate race at the top of Mississippi ballots, where it belongs, and let voters elect the candidate they wish.

Sincerely,

You don't seem to care at all about the principles upon which this country was founded--representational democracy means that voters must have the opportunity to cast their vote fair and square. What kind of legacy are you leaving for your children and their children--a total lack of integrity and ethics?

Do I really need to tell you about Mississippi law? Evidently, yes. Your ploys are a clearly desperate act and you look humiliated as a result.

Do you fear losing so much that you would do anything to win? Or is this the "good ole boys" doing what they always have done; steal elections because "the people" would never vote for your candidate.

I am old enough to remember when these things did not happen in our beloved America for the most part. I have never been as concerned as I am right now about the future of our democracy. The entire world watches and learns from us--what are they learning now??
