Oprah to call for Peace

Dear Oprah,

We, the Undersigned, call on you to use your voice, and your status, to promote a peaceful response by the United States to the atrocities of September 11;

The Oprah Winfrey show is much more than a talk show, it is a spiritual clinic for millions of Americans, and you Oprah are America’s number one spiritual teacher. The healing and message which you dispense daily, needs, now more than ever, to be heard by the entire nation.

You know Oprah, that all human life is sacred; You also know, as does the majority of humanity, that Love is the Law of Life; And we must live by the laws of life, and we must encourage our leaders to live by these same laws.

Every time we choose violence over non-violence, retaliation over reconciliation, we further damage the sacred and delicate fabric of life, which interconnects us all.

Let us not be mistaken, the United States has the right to use military force in reaction to the terrible attacks, however, as history too often shows us, the exercise of this right will inevitably degrade and destroy innocent human life and create more suffering in our world.

So, Oprah we ask you to lead the chorus of voices calling on the President and other leaders, to please not destroy without mercy men, women and children in any part of the Islamic world. We must remind ourselves that war has never solved humanity’s problems, and that we cannot denounce violence on a Tuesday and espouse it on a Thursday;

Any victory by military means over terrorism would be a hollow one as it would be founded on the same principles of violence and force which the terrorists used.

Please, Oprah lend your voice, to the cause of a peaceful resolution of the world’s ills. Please Oprah, remind America that the nation is made up of individuals and it’s foreign policy must not contradict the conscience of those individuals.

The whole world now knows that the true capital of the United States is not to be measured in dollars or gold but in the compassion and courage of the American people. Please Oprah speak out to encourage an extension of the wisdom, the love, and the heroism witnessed in lower Manhattan and across the country, to the level of US foreign policy.

Please, Oprah use your unique position, to rise to the historic challenge, to teach the world that an eye for an eye really does leave everybody blind. In the words of Martin Luther King, “we must learn to live together as brothers or we must perish together as fools”

Please Oprah use this moment, to encourage the leaders of the US, to stay true to the spirit and soul of their people, and find creative and constructive solutions to the terror.

Please Oprah speak your wisdom to those who would seek military revenge, and explain to them what it is to suffer from a contaminated heart.

Please Oprah, call on the United States to become a superpower of soulforce.

Please Oprah, speak it out in public, what in private, we all hold to be true, that only love, and love alone can save us now.

We can rid the world of violence and terror; We can respond to violence in terror in a spirit which upholds the ideals contained with the UN declaration of Human Rights; It only takes the courage of a few wise people to point the world in the right direction. We call on you to show such courage.
