Pledge to Help Sea Otters by Filing Your Taxes!

Target: Californians
Sponsored by: Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund
The Sea Otter is one of CaliforniaÂ’s most charismatic and most threatened species. Last year, a victory was won when Governor Schwarzenegger passed a bill allowing, among several things, a tax check-off for sea otters.

Tax deductible donations generated by this check-off will be used "to support increased investigation, prevention, and enforcement actions to decrease sea otter mortality, and to provide for research and programs related to sea otters." In order to ensure that the CA Sea Otter Fund will remain on the California tax form in the future, California taxpayers must donate at least $250,000 through this tax check off this year.

Sign this pledge to include the CA Sea Otter Fund in your tax return this year! You can donate and write off any amount - even $1. A small contribution from every Californian will go a long way!
deadline: 3-5-2008
goal: 4,000

I pledge to file my taxes for Sea Otters this year.

Here are the steps I will take to help:
1. When filling out my 540 form, I will go to line 63, CA Sea Otter Fund, under Contributions. I will fill out whatever amount I wish to donate.
2. If owed money by the state, whatever amount I contribute to the CA Sea Otter Fund will be deducted from my refund.
3. If I owe taxes, whatever amount I contribute should be added to the check I make out to the State.
4. Next year, I can write off my donation as part of my tax-deductible charitable giving.

Sea otters aren't evil animals. They don't deserve to be killed for no reason. They deserve to live a normal life!

The destruction of species and habitat can only denegrate our human dignity and hinder our own future. It is possible to be technologically advanced without ruining our precious natural resources. Laziness has never been a valid excuse for irresponsibility.
