Tell Vice President Cheney to Stop Killing Endangered Whales!

Target: Dick Cheney, Vice President
Sponsored by: Care2
The endangered North Atlantic Right Whale is the rarest of all large whale species, with fewer than 400 still alive today. Their biggest threat is speeding ships that strike them, causing injury and death. Scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration proposed a reduction in speed around North America ports to protect right whales.

But Vice President Dick Cheney has blocked this rule from taking effect for more than a year, claiming that he knows more about oceans than the NOAA scientists!

Vice President Cheney's delaying tactics have already led to the death of three right whales and the injury of two more from speeding vessels. Scientists warn that the species could become extinct with the death of only one more pregnant female. Urge Vice President Cheney to leave the science to the scientists!
deadline: 5-8-2009
goal: 10,000

Mr. Vice President,

I am appalled to learn that you have blocked the passing of a rule that would protect the endangered North Atlantic Right Whale. The National Marine Fisheries Services' proposed rule to limit ships to 10 knots or less during key whale migration times must be released immediately.

The leading cause of death for right whales in the western North Atlantic is from ship strikes. Since 1986, at least 19 right whales have been killed by speeding vessels, with more suspected but unreported. Fewer than 400 right whales survive in our oceans today, and we cannot afford to lose another one.

[Your comment here]

Please stop delaying this important rule today. The future of the right whale depends on it.

Sincerely,
[Your name here]

I’m sickened and disgusted. Please stop the Holocaust already!! Animal Abuse, Sick Behavior AND THE KILLING OF THE ANIMALS. The World Is Watching You and we will take action.. How do you sleep at night? People who do these things to innocent animals (who scream and cry and feel the pain), should be arrested and put in jail. And I will work on this to happen.

We don't have time to dilly-dally with this... the numbers are dangerously low and decreasing far too quickly to be indecisive. For animals this close to extinction we need to pull out all the stops and do whatever it takes to preserve and boost the sadly depleting numbers. Human beings as a race, with all our intelligence and awareness, have tragically failed too many species already. Tasmanian Tigers are just a blot in our history books and it wasn't much more than a century ago when we last saw them alive... but instead of being made an example of they'll soon just be archived as a fairy tale somewhere between Giant Serpents & Unicorns. Don't Let It Happen Again - Extinct Is Forever!!!

Cruelty on animals must stop. Animals are a part of mother nature and she is getting very angry with people hurting and destroying her beloved animals, earth and environment. She is soon to whip her tail with full blown whips, and that is something I can guarantee that you don't want to experience. Nobody has ever began to experience her full blown whips, only her small whips. And she is now preparing to whip her tail with numerous full blown whips! Once mother nature whips her tail, there is no stopping her, regardless of who you are. The days are growing shorter, and so is her fiery. Therefore, keep on making her angry and I promise you will regret it. You have been warned.

I devoutly wish that we would not become responsible for the extinction of yet another species. I strongly regret each instance in which one of these majestic creatures have been harmed by human hands. Please pass this rule!
