Help End Avoidable Blindness in the Developing World

The World Health Organization estimates that six million people worldwide are blind due to trachoma and more than 150 million people are in need of treatment. Trachoma infects poor people without access to clean washing facilities.

For people affected by trachoma, their eyelashes turn inward and rub against the eyeball, leading to scarring of the eye's surface. Some pull out the inward-turned eyelashes with tweezers, but this is only a temporary solution. The eyelashes grow back and stronger than before, bringing worse pain and eventually blindness.

Sightsavers International is part of the World Health Organization's Global Elimination of trachoma by 2020 program, which aims to create medical, surgical and hygienic innovations to help the world's poorest people fight this terrible disease.

Right now, about 84 million people with trachoma need treatment to prevent blindness. Support Sightsavers International in their goal to fight poverty and help those suffering from trachoma.
I support the work of Sight Savers International in their efforts to improve the sight of millions of citizens around the world.

In 2008, trachoma robbed nearly 6 million people of their vision, and damaged the eyesight of 8 million people. Trachoma infects poor people without access to clean washing facilities. At present, approximately 3 percent of the world's blindness is the result of this disease.

I am writing to support and encourage Sight Savers to keep taking action to eliminate trachoma as a blinding disease.

Right now, an estimated 84 million cases of trachoma are in need of treatment if blindness is to be prevented. People around the world need your help and I am encouraging you to keep up the efforts in eliminating blindness.

I support Sight Savers International in their efforts to save lives and prevent blindness around the world.
