Urge Canada to help more children get back to school

As Canadian parents cheerfully send their children back to school, millions of parents around the world facing drought, conflict or financial hardship can only hope for this opportunity for their children.

Marta (pictured) is one of the estimated 263 million children who has a thirst for education, but is denied a chance to learn. Failed crops in Ethiopia has meant Marta’s parents simply cannot afford school fees. Instead, Marta looks after her younger brother Abush each day.

Education is a human right. Every girl and boy should have the chance to learn and reach their full potential like children in Canada.

Ask Canada to stand up for global education

The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) is a major supporter of education in the world's poorest countries. This fall, advocates from around the globe are calling on world leaders to support the GPE’s replenishment campaign. With additional support over the next 3 years, GPE can:

  1. Send an additional 26 million children to school
  2. Train 1.7 million teachers
  3. Build 23,000 classrooms

Call on Canada's Minister of International Development, Marie-Claude Bibeau, to increase Canada’s investment to the GPE to $260 million over the next three years. That’s equal to approximately $1 for each child who is out of school.
