Don't Let Conflict Minerals Finance Congo's War

The Democratic Republic of Congo is the site of the deadliest conflict since World War II -- and the sale of minerals is largely financing the devastation.

Many of these minerals are an essential component to a number of consumer electronic devices - making a number of major U.S. corporations indirectly complicit in financing the rape and violence against millions of Congolese civilians.

That's why we're calling on Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to work with political and industry leaders on the creation of an international certification system that ensures minerals sourced from the Congo are not financing war.

Urge Secretary Clinton to make steps towards ending the sale of conflict minerals.

Dear Secretary Clinton,

I am writing to express concern over the devastating conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Millions of people have died in a war largely financed by conflict minerals.

As the largest end-user of these conflict minerals, the United States has an obligation to work on the creation of a legitimate mining sector in the DRC.

I respectfully ask that you convene a meeting with political and industry leaders to create a comprehensive international certification system that ensures the safety and prosperity of the Congolese people.

Sincerely,
