After suing a Ugandan newspaper that published his photo and address, along with those of 99 others, under the heading "100 Top Ugandan Homos" and the caption "hang them", LGBT activist David Kato was brutally murdered in his home.

Homosexuality is illegal in Uganda and David's work in changing national policy with the Sexual Minorities Uganda group (SMUG) made him a target. Although the murder happened just months after his name, address, and photo were published, police claim that the area is full of crime and that his death was most likely the result of a robbery. David's fellow activists and friends are now worried about their own safety, but say that because police haven't acknowledged the case as a hate crime, they must look out for themselves.

Uganda must protect all citizens, especially the brave men and women who are fighting for LGBT rights. The Ugandan Ambassador for the U.S., Perezi K. Kamunanwire has the chance to let Uganda know that America supports the activists and demands justice for David Kato. Let him know that David Kato's killer must be brought to justice before anyone else is harmed.
David Kato was a brave and outspoken leader who was brutally murdered in his home after a Ugandan newspaper published his photo and address under the heading "100 Top Ugandan Homos". Homosexual activists throughout the country are in danger while the police pass the murder off as a robbery gone bad. Uganda must show its support for these human rights activists and demand that the crime be taken seriously and David Kato's killer brought to justice.
