I am Against the Killing of Cats!

Sponsored by: Alley Cat Allies

More than 70 percent of all cats brought into our nation's animal pounds and shelters are killed - feral, stray and owned cats. Everyone deplores this killing. Many characterize it as "necessary evil."

There is nothing necessary about this evil. Today's animal control system developed over 100 years ago to address certain serious harms that dogs posed to humans. It was, and is still today, based on ownership of animals.

Animal control laws attempt to control animals by controlling their owners. Animals who do not have owners or whose owners cannot comply must be either adopted or killed.

The fate of our nation's cats is changing - due to a massive grassroots movement to stop the killing of cats across the country.

Sign the pledge to show that you want the killing of our nation's cats to stop. You can be a part of this life-saving grassroots movement!

I am opposed to the misguided view that killing is a "necessary evil." I know that the killing of cats in shelters is unethical and must stop. I pledge to do one or more of the following:
- Call my Mayor and urge her or him to support laws that stop the killing of cats.
- Learn more about the movement to stop the killing of cats by receiving information from Alley Cat Allies.
- Share what I have learned with my family and friends, so that they can also help protect our nation's cats.
- Write a letter to the editor of my local newspaper.

I think what needs to be done is better ways for population control, Local Vets Everywhere should donate their time to have more free clinics where people can not only get their 4 legged furry children neutered,But they can get needed medical attention for illness etc. That would help and start programs to concentrate on teaching people to be more compassionate and Responsible when it comes to our companions.Get people to realize just how wonderful and amazing these Beautiful creatures are! I have a total of 9 cats and to me they are my children I Love them with all my heart and I couldn't imagine life without them.I am amazed on a daily basis just how Special each one is and all the incredible things they think to do.I can get more enjoyment sitting and watching all their silly antics for hours then I do watching TV or going out.

Try and get vets to donate some time to spay and neuter these cats for free or at a low price so that everyone can afford it.

I believe in spaying and neutering cats. Why is it so expensive? Lots of people cannot afford to have this done. It woud be cheaper in the long run.Cats are one of God's beautiful creatures and should be well cared for by humans.

You wouldn't kill thousands of homeless people would you? No. Animals have feelings and emotions too. Helping them would be the best cure for this situation. How can you sleep at night knowing you murdered someone helpess?

There's absolutely no reason to murder hundreds of defenseless cats. People NEED to be more humane. You wouldn't kill hundreds of people, just because they didn't have a home, would you?

I cannot support this horror either. You see, personally, I have had several pet cats (born and raised at our house), get let out by someone not paying attention, and, never come back. Usually this frustration is worsened when you see they got hit by a car, or killed by your neighbor's dog...and in your own yard! Others make the stupid mistake of thinking your pet is a 'stray' and either taking it as if it was homeless and no one will miss it, or assume no one else would want it...and dump it on a shelter with Real stray and feral cats. All of them deserve a chance, and not many get that chance. Most importantly, the workers at these 'animal rescues' and shelters or pounds, don't make enough of an attempt to put out FOUND signs and postings for those pets dropped off as 'strays' or 'wild'. I've worked briefly with 2 shelters...and i can tell you, they do not know much about the whereabouts of the cats before they got to the shelter. They do not try to know. If they are kittens and healthy...instantly up for adoption. Yet, all adults are quarantined for around a week, then it's decided if they are 'friendly enough' for adoption. Most aren't by their standards. And within a few weeks, due to personality, mood, health, expenses, or lack of room, the vast majority of 'saved' animals...are euthanized. The chances of a pet cat ever being reunited with its rightful owner are slim to none. Also, even if they are wrongly brought in and adopted, the owners are never informed, and can't get them back, though the pet belongs with them, because of the adoption form. The whole process is corrupt and wrong. Personally, I am for spay/neuter return programs 100%.

Of course i DO pledge! it's obvious we can only pledge not to kill cats or any pet / animal !! they are our brothers, sisters they are part of the Whole like us we do are all interconnected so how can one just think of killing one of them!! killing a cat or any animal is to kill oneself! So stop killing cats -animals- at once!!
