I am Against the Killing of Cats!

Sponsored by: Alley Cat Allies

More than 70 percent of all cats brought into our nation's animal pounds and shelters are killed - feral, stray and owned cats. Everyone deplores this killing. Many characterize it as "necessary evil."

There is nothing necessary about this evil. Today's animal control system developed over 100 years ago to address certain serious harms that dogs posed to humans. It was, and is still today, based on ownership of animals.

Animal control laws attempt to control animals by controlling their owners. Animals who do not have owners or whose owners cannot comply must be either adopted or killed.

The fate of our nation's cats is changing - due to a massive grassroots movement to stop the killing of cats across the country.

Sign the pledge to show that you want the killing of our nation's cats to stop. You can be a part of this life-saving grassroots movement!

I am opposed to the misguided view that killing is a "necessary evil." I know that the killing of cats in shelters is unethical and must stop. I pledge to do one or more of the following:
- Call my Mayor and urge her or him to support laws that stop the killing of cats.
- Learn more about the movement to stop the killing of cats by receiving information from Alley Cat Allies.
- Share what I have learned with my family and friends, so that they can also help protect our nation's cats.
- Write a letter to the editor of my local newspaper.

Instead of murdering these sad little orphans, spread the word to everyone far and wide to NEUTER AND SPAY their pets. Pounds and shelters must also neuter and spay before releasing pets into anyone's hands.

I volunteer at an animal shelter, and our shelter (as long as I have been there) has never killed one single cat or dog. And except for two, just TWO, cats all the animals at the shelter were adopted. The two are still there, but are hard to be adopted out only because they have feline aids and older. Killing animals is cruel and utterly unnecessary. Our shelter has proved that, and I know we're not the only ones. No-kill is the way to go.

This killing is totally irrational, we must stop the insanity, regarding our treatment of all animals...specially those that we have domesticated - it is truley shameful!!

I think each county should have a trap neuter release program and feeding stations for feral cats. There should be mandatory neutering requirements for all but show cats, with free / low cost neutering available. All public and private animal shelters should be kill free and pet owners should get tax breaks.

I was informed tonight that two good friends had their kittens (Children, Kids) neck broken & thrown back over the fence. People who kill any animals must face Justice, Not At The Hand Of Society (Society Does Not Give A Crap) But By The Hands Of The Protectors. Yes Yes Cease This Evil Act Which God Damn It Is Against Fathers Will. Cat Killers Are Weak, Gay Individuals With No Guts

I have never killed a cat. I love animals and I especially love all feline species. They are smart, intelligent and a presence. Last year, Miss Kitty, my much-loved Tuxedo cat passed to spirit at home after I sang her favorite lullaby. She is ever-present in my apartment where I continue to see and hear her. I have her ashes on my altar. Miss Kitty will be buried with me. After many months of grieving and thanks to a very dear friend, another cat person, I now have another companion -- Bentley, a male Russian Blue. He is affectionate and we are very much in tune with each other. I thank God for my friend who patiently waited until I was ready to adopt from the animal orphanage. And I thank God for my Bentley. I love my little guy and tell him every day. My pledge is to continue to love and respect our feline kin and to support our local animal orphanage whenever I can.
