Petition Chinese Government and the UN to Allow Tibetans to Stay in their Homes

  • by: Andrea Good

Chinese authorities have announced the destruction of thousands of monastic dwellings and expulsion of monks, nuns and lay practitioners at Serthar Larung Gar Buddhist Institute, the famed Tibetan Buddhist religious encampment located in Serthar (Ch: Seda) County in Kardze (Ch: Ganzi) Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, in eastern Tibet. http://www.tchrd.org/china-issues-demolition-order-on-worlds-largest-religious-town-in-tibet/
While this is in violation of international law, and even though the United Nation's General Assembly in 1961 and 1965 passed resolutions recognizing the Tibetans' right to self-determination, so far the United Nations has taken no steps to restore Tibet's sovereignty. The Human Rights Commission, which under pressure from China, refused to even discuss a resolution on human rights abuses in China, is an example of the United Nations' unwillingness to uphold international law. http://www.tibetjustice.org/reports/occupied.html
We the undersigned desire that China and the United Nations come to a peaceful resolution and to stop ignoring the human rights of Tibetans who are losing their homes and livelihood. It is vital for China and her own future as well as that of the Earth to set a compassionate example to the rest of the world by relinquishing human rights violations and aid in creating a better future for humans, animals and the planet, and, importantly, to allow Tibetans to live safely and peacefully in their homes without interruption.
