Allow Home-Based Pet Sitting in Gainesville!

  • by: Bruce Baber
  • recipient: The City Commissioners of Gainesville, FL, USA

Bruce Baber has been attempting to regain the ability to sit dogs in his home at 1713 NW 7th Ave., Gainesville, FL since April 29th, 2010.  A City Code forbids the keeping of animals other than one's own pets in a residential neighborhood within Gainesville.  The City Commission, on July 21st, 2011, voted 4-3 to approve the proposed code change, but on February 2nd, 2012 (yes, Groundhog Day) in the second vote necessary for final approval, one commissioner reversed his earlier vote to "opposed", and the code change failed.  Bruce is resolute in his continued effort to get this ridiculous code changed.  Therefore, it is very important that the City understands that there is continuing support for Bruce, and thus, support for the dog loving citizens of Gainesville, many of whom would like to similarly serve dogs and their owners, and provide for themselves in this time of extreme economic hardship.  Please help Bruce and others in Gainesville to perform this valuable and much needed service.  Go to: http://www.savebruce.org/ to get the full story. This Gainesville Sun article, as well as a search of their site for my name, and a similar search of the Independent Florida Alligator, TV20, and TGN (The Gainesville Network) sites will give you further background information: http://www.gainesville.com/article/20100616/ARTICLES/6161008  Thank you!

We the undersigned wish for you to allow Bruce Baber to resume his dog sitting service from his residence at 1713 NW 7th Ave., Gainesville, FL 32603, and to allow anyone in the City of Gainesville, who meets the criteria, to do the same.
Thank you!
