Create a Bushwick Community Garden at 143 Stockholm Street

The vacant lot at 143 Stockholm Street was purchased by the City of New York in 1986, and is currently owned by the NYPD. Now, in 2012, local residents are organizing around this site and calling for the establishment of a new neighborhood garden dedicated to serving the Bushwick community. Help us tear down fences and build raised beds. By adding your name to this petition, you are voicing your support for the creation of a people's garden and greening action hub at 143 Stockholm.

Please share this effort with friends and neighbors. Let's grow together!
We the undersigned support the establishment of a new community garden at 143 Stockholm Street, a vacant lot owned by the New York Police Department.

We envision a public garden at this site dedicated to Education, Empowerment and the Enrichment of Urban Space. Open to all Bushwick residents, 'Xquizit Greens at Stockholm' will both strengthen community and cultivate individual creativity and self-reliance through skill-share classes and workshops, art events programming, seed-saving, upcycling and composting initiatives. Xquizit Greens at Stockholm will be a positive social gathering point and greening action hub that is responsive to Brooklyn's growing interest in urban agriculture.

This underutilized parcel at 143 Stockholm presents an opportunity to improve quality of life in our neighborhood. In addition to providing community members with space, resources and support to grow fresh, organic vegetables, garden organizers will pursue partnerships with Bushwick schools, houses of worship, service organizations and other food sovereignty coalitions. In keeping with the NYPD Community Affairs Bureau's stated mission to encourage productive police-community relations, we hope you will approve a license agreement granting permission to make 143 Stockholm Street the home for this community garden.

Thank you for your time, and for supporting grassroots urban renewal.
