By signing this petition, you are requesting Margate's Mayor and Commissioners to amend local ordinance
ARTICLE III - Nuisances - § 122-6, "Curbing of dogs required" and
§ 122-7.1, Removal and disposal of feces, paragraph
"D.", "Methods of disposal".
These amendments will:
1. Clearly specify where a dog may defecate and urinate within the City of Margate - namely, the portion of a public street lying between the curblines and,
2. Prohibit the placement of dog feces in any public or private trashcan or trash receptacle except that of the owner or person in charge of any dog.
These amendments are necessary to maintain a healthy and disease free environment within the City of Margate, NJ.
Dear Margate Mayor and Commissioners,
We the undersinged support the proposed revisions to Margate City Ordinance § 122-6. Curbing of dogs required.
It is our understnading that the original wording of this ordinance will be stricken and replaced with the following wording:
"It shall be unlawful for a dog to defecate, urinate, defile and/or commit any nuisance on public property, except within that the portion of a public street lying between the curblines may be used to curb a dog, or on private property without the express consent of the owner or person in possession of such private property. It shall be presumed that the presence of a dog on private property of a person other than the dog's owner or possessor is without the express consent of the owner or person in possession of such private property."
It is also understood that § 122-7.1 - "Removal and disposal of feces", paragraph "D.", "Methods of disposal" will include the following wording:
"Dog feces may not be placed in any public or private trashcan or other trash receptacle except that of the owner or person in charge of any dog."
We urge our elected officials to swiftly pass the proposed ammendments to protect the health and safety of all Margate residents and visitors - especially children, the elderly and immune suppressed.
Dog waste poses a significant health risk to our community. There are more than 40 diseases that can be directly transmitted from dog waste to humans.
Dog waste is harmful to the environment and degrades our city.
