Demand Dignity and Protection for All Women in the United States, Regardless of Ethnicity

The likelihood of a women being raped or sexually assaulted in the United States is 2.5 times greater for those of indigenous ethnicities, according to information collected by the US Department of Justice. According to Amnesty International, another study conducted by the US Department of Justice “concluded that 34.1 percent of American Indian and Alaska Native women- or more than one in three- will be raped during their lifetime.”

Women have the right to be protected regardless of their cultural heritage. Although the US government is clearly aware of the high risk of assault for indigenous women, they have failed to take adequate measures to protect them. Tribal law enforcement agencies are extremely underfunded; lack of appropriate police training means that little is done to stop the cycle of abuse.

This must stop. Urge the U.S. Department of Internal Affairs (Indian) to take proactive measures to protect Indigenous women.

We the undersigned demand that women of all ethnicities in the United States be protected.

The fact that indigenous women are 2.5 times more likely to be raped is unacceptable. Protection and support for women must be equal regardless of ethnicity or cultural background.

Show the world that women's rights must be protected, regardless of which country they live in.
