The rules on boy's hair in the RCHS dress code are vague and outrageous. The rule states that the boys' hair should be "about the collar and above the earlobe" its quite confusing. When asked why we have the strict code on boys' hair the authorities of the school will reply with; "its a distraction to the learning process." But how is a boys long hair anymore distracting then a girl's long hair. I don't see why there should be a double-standard between girls' and boys' hair. We are taught that girls and boys should be treated as equals; I don't see how we are being very equal when we have different rules. What you are signing; is a petition to drop the boys' strict and unfair dress code against long hair. We all thought the standardized dress was insane but nobody has done anything about it. Some of us thought that the new dress code was fine, I for one dont mind it but this has gone too far. A persons hairstyle/length should not be determined by another person even if they are of higher authority. The school board has pushed this too far, they can a least give us the freedom and individuality of then length and style of our own hair. Apparently the style has to be "business-like" too keep away from "distracting" others in the classroom. I see other boys and girls with hair that not one serious corporation would accept in their offices. When did this go from being a classroom to a business-like atmosphere? I honestly feel that my hair is a part of me and if I cut my hair more people would be distracted by that than if I kept it the way it is. My peers should be accustomed to seeing long hair now so they wont be distracted by it in the business world. Isnt that something we should be taught? This is my opinion and I"m sure others agree, and if you agree please sign this petition.
Thank you,
