End Trapping of Bobcats in New Hampshire -- Permanently

Bobcats in NH have not been trapped since 1989. However, trapping of bobcats may soon be legal again in NH, if our opposition to trapping them is not expressed and heard. Thus this petition and request for you to sign it. Trappers want to exploit bobcats to be able to sell their furs (pelts) for around $350 each, a significant chunk of money and incentive to trap them. This petition will be used to tell NH F&G and the NH Legislature that the public wants bobcats to be classified as a non-game species, not to be trapped or hunted ever again in NH. Thank you for signing.

To NH Fish & Game Dept. and NH Legislators:

We have signed this petition to tell you that the trapping season on bobcats ought to remain closed, no matter the results of the population study underway.

As you know, the bobcat population had been severely depleted by 1989. Correctly so, bobcats have not been trapped in New Hampshire (NH) since then to help them recover. However, trappers are begging to trap them again and are asking the NH Fish & Game Department (F&G) to oblige, now that the bobcat population appears to be improving.

Trappers want to exploit bobcats to be able to sell their furs (pelts) for around $350 each, a significant chunk of money and incentive to trap them.

Trappers would use steel-jaw traps misleadingly called "Best Management Practices" to capture bobcats and then kill them, even choking them to death so as not to damage their furs. NH F&G's website already contains the publication "Best Management Practices for Trapping Bobcats in the United States" as preparation for opening up a trapping season. This is why we are signing now -- to stop any plans from going into effect  for trapping bobcats ever again.

Bobcats are NH's only wild feline predator and have an important role to play in the ecosystem. They ought not to be subjected to horrible deaths for trappers's greed and lust to kill something beautiful.

We are informing the NH F&G Department and the NH Legislature that the public wants bobcats to be classified as a non-game species, not to be trapped or hunted ever again in NH.  Thank you.
