Explore all options before accepting a transportation reserve for Bayers Road in Halifax, Nova Scoti

*This is the second time this petition has been online. Please do not sign if you signed the first petition: "Transportation Options and Costs for Highway 102/Bayers Road Corridor".

We fear that Council will set aside a transportation corridor reserve without adequate information. Though reserving a corridor may seem like good planning, it is often the first step to road widening. The widening of Bayers Road would result in the expenditure of millions of dollars to buy land and would mean the demolition of homes.

We the undersigned request that Halifax Regional Municipality's Regional Council defer any decision about developing a transportation corridor reserve along Highway 102/Bayers Road until after all options are studied and a full cost estimate of each option is completed.

The factors in making any decision on a transportation corridor reserve must include:

* Active transportation plans, priorities, and implementation strategies

* Transportation Master Plan linking all transit and transportation demand options as well as outlining repercussions for parking of additional traffic

* Halifax Peninsula Transit Corridor Study

* Implications for further choke points with each alternative

* Impact of road pricing on traffic levels

* Environmental implications of increased private vehicle use

All studies must examine both provincial and municipal plans.

We appreciate Council's willingness to consider our request.
