Free Mustapha Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud NOW!

We, the undersigned, seek the immediate release of Mustapha Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud.

Sidi Mouloud, the former police inspector of the Polisario, was arrested on September 21, 2010 by Algerian authorities and Polisario figures after speaking out in favor of the Moroccan Autonomy Plan for the Western Sahara.  Even before his arrest, Mr. Sidi Mouloud was barred access from his wife and children, including his newborn baby girl whom he has not yet seen.

While Mr. Sidi Mouloud's detention itself is illegal, as he broke no laws other than to speak freely about his political views, we are further concerned for his health and safety in light of recent threats against his life.

Mr. Sidi Mouloud's detention is a direct violation of Articles 9, 10, 12, 13, 16, and 19
of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Sidi Mouloud, like Nelson Mandela before him, is being held illegally for his beliefs
and for his exercising his fundamental rights.

We call on the Government of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria and the
leadership of the Polisario Front  to immediately guarantee his and his family's health and safety, to permit his return to his family, to ensure his reunion with his family, and not to deny his and his family the right to leave the camps of Tindouf, Algeria, if they so wish.
