Lower Age of Consent
Current age of consent laws make criminals out of innocent people. This petition is to lower the federal age of consent to 16 and give an unconditional pardon to all people prosecuted for crimes related to age of consent, such as statutory rape.
This WOULD NOT apply to violent sexual offenders, sexual assault, etc. nor to those prosecuted for offenses with a minor under 16.
We, the undersigned, hereby ask Congress to change federal age of consent laws to 16 and to grant an unconditional pardon to all people prosecuted under the current age of consent laws for any offense with a minor 16 years of age or older, strictly for the age related offense.
We do not support nor request that Congress shall grant any pardon to violent sexual offenders. We ask only that non-violent, law abiding citizens whom have been unjustly prosecuted for having consensual sex with an individual at least 16 years of age but under 18 no longer be treated as predators and no longer be forced to register as sex offenders.
We ask that any individual who has been forced to register as a sex offender under the current age of consent laws no longer be required to register, and have any charges related to age of consent expunged from their criminal records.
